Bhubaneswar, Dec. 4: The sixth convocation of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) would be held on December 18 on its permanent campus in Rourkela.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman S.S. Mantha has been invited as chief gust for the event, which would be chaired by governor and varsity chancellor S.C. Jamir.

On the occasion, certificates will be awarded to candidates having completed their Ph.D. during 2011-12. “Gold medals and certificates of merit will be awarded to students from various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of BPUT for 2011-12. The list of students has been posted on our website,” said varsity registrar Mihir Nayak.

Certificates of M.Tech., M.Pharm., M.Arch., M.B.A., M.C.A. and B.Tech., B.Pharm. and B.Arch. examination would be dispatched to the affiliate colleges, he said.

A dress code has been specified for this year’s convocation. Girls have been asked to wear white salwaar kameez or white saree with red border and angavastra (a kind of dupatta which can be worn over one shoulder or across the neck covering both shoulders). Male students would be required to attend the event in full sleeve white shirt, black trousers, red tie and angavastra.

The BPUT authorities said that they would introduce a few more M.Tech. programmes under the Rashtriya Uchchatara Sikshya Abhiyan scheme. The university has also decided to invite annual projects from students in constituent colleges to encourage innovative ideas.

“The projects will be thoroughly evaluated and the best 10 will be awarded and then taken up for further research,” a senior officer said.

“We have asked our associate colleges to run the projects through an anti-plagiarism software to ensure that they are original. The university will also scrutinise them through sophisticated software. If we find that the ideas have been borrowed from the Internet or copied from any source, the student, the guide teacher and the college concerned will be penalised,” he added.
