Jajpur: Police on Wednesday arrested a juvenile for allegedly attacking a minor girl from his village with a blade on Tuesday.
The, boy, 14, is a Class-IX student. The 11-year-old girl suffered multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The police said the boy stayed with his uncle and studied a local high school. He asked the victim to go to a nearby field to pluck dates. However, the dispute arose between the duo over the distribution of dates.
The girl had alleged that the boy collected more dates than her when he climbed the tree. As a result, she wanted half of the dates. The enraged boy then attacked the girl with a blade and she fell unconscious. The boy then fled the scene.
"Some passers by found my niece lying on the ground and brought her home. She was admitted to Dasarathapur hospital from where she was refereed to the District Headquarters Hospital as her condition worsened," the victim's uncle said in his complaint to the police.
The girl had suffered multiple injuries to her neck and left hand and was later shifted to SCB for better treatment.
"She has suffered grievous injuries on her neck and received 10 stitches," said Bamadev Nanda, Mangalpur police station inspector-in-charge.
He added: "The girl wanted an equal cut of the share, but her demands agitated the boy and he attacked her with the blade."
ATM loot bid
The police have sent the boy to a children's remand home.Criminals made an abortive attempt to break open an ATM kiosk and loot the cash in Balasore.
The SBI kiosk installed at Ranipatna Chhak was found broken. Though police had begun investigation with a scientific team, they failed to achieve any substantial progress.
