Malkangiri: Three women and a child went missing when a boat carrying seven people capsized in Balimela reservoir in Malkangiri district, an official said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the boat sank after losing balance near Kenduguda village under the jurisdiction of Chitrakonda police station on Monday evening, they said.

While three of the occupants of the country boat managed to swim to safety, four persons went missing, said Chitrakonda tehsildar Falguni Majhi.

On getting information, personnel of the fire brigade, Quick Response Team (QRT) and police rushed to the spot and undertook a day-long search and rescue operation to trace the missing persons, he said.
