
Rourkela, June 25: A BJD worker was shot at today while he was standing with some of his friends outside the Basanti Colony office of a former city councillor.
Mohammed Zoul, 36, alias Golden, a resident of Narla Road is a cable TV operator. He had gone to meet Subhas Swain, a former councillor, and was talking to him outside his residence.
While he was talking to Swain, two persons came on a motorcycle and fired at him. The victim was rushed to a nursing home in Civil Township from where he was later shifted to the Ispat General Hospital. His condition is stated to be stable.
"Before anyone could react, they fled from the scene and I fell down," said Zoul.
Recollecting the moment of the sudden attack, Swain said there was a huge sound.
"I was unable to comprehend what was happening as the sound was deafening and suddenly I heard Zoul shouting 'are margiya are margiya' (I am dying). The next moment, I saw Zoul lying in a pool of blood."
Zoul had been hit on his left hand. "The upper arm bone on Zoul's left hand has broken due to the impact of the bullet," said Swain, who rushed him to the hospital and stayed by his side during initial treatment.
Inspector in-charge of Uditnagar police station S.N. Muduli said: "We are yet to ascertain the real reason behind the attack. We are investigating the case. We cannot say anything at this stage."
Two held
Malgodown police on Thursday arrested two persons for the theft of gold ornaments, laptop, mobile phone and a two-wheeler from the house of an autorickshaw driver Keshab Samal of Jobra.
The accused have been identified as Aditya Nayak, 20, and Krushna Mohan Sahoo, 21.
