Kannur, March 20 (PTI): The judicial remand of the man suspected to be Bitti Mohanty, convict in the rape of a German woman in Alwar, was today extended by 14 days by a court here.

Police produced Bitti before the court today on expiry of his 10-day custody during which they took him to Rajasthan for gathering evidence. The police team had returned on March 18 after investigations there.

Police said they had collected all details regarding Bitti, who was working as Raghav Rajan in a public sector bank here after jumping parole in 2006 while serving a seven-year sentence in a Jaipur jail for raping the German woman. The state police have charged a case of impersonation, cheating and forgery against Bitti.

Bitti was today taken to the bank where he worked, the Chinmaya Institute of Technology here where he did his MBA using forged certificates and the places he stayed here.

The police said they would again file a plea in the court tomorrow for further custody of Bitti as they planned to take him to Odisha for gathering further evidence to confirm his identity.

Only last week, a Kerala police team visited Cuttack to verify the documents and other education certificates submitted for securing the bank job.

The team had visited Stewart School and Christ College in Cuttack and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology where Bitti had studied. The police was of the opinion that all educational certificates submitted by Bitti were forged.

The team led by Joshy Jose had also interrogated former Odisha DGP and Bitti’s father Bidya Bhusan Mohanty.

The team had claimed that Bidya Bhusan was shown the photograph of Raghav Ranjan and the former top cop identified him as his son Bitti.

The team had also given a clean chit to the former DGP.

“We haven’t found any evidence about the former DGP’s role in helping his son to forge documents. Our investigation is open, we have no further plans to interrogate Bidya Bhusan Mohanty,” Jose added.
