Bhutan PM on Odisha tour

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 6: Bhutan Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, who is on a private visit to the state, was today received in the capital city by Odisha agriculture minister Debi Prasad Mishra.

Thinley, who will be in the state for the next four days, is scheduled to attend the annual general body meeting of the Mahabodhi Society of India on Saturday. Delegates from all over the country will attend the meeting.

“It will be a general body meeting where discussions will be held regarding internal matters of the society,” said society secretary S.K. Mohapatra.

Thinley and Puri King Maharaja Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb are scheduled to unveil a metal statue of Guru Padmasambhav on the Mahabodhi Society campus here. Guru Padmasambhav is revered as the second Buddha and a six feet statue of him has been brought from Nepal for this occasion. “After unveiling, it will be opened to the public for worship,” said Mohapatra.

Thinley is also scheduled to visit Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in the city. He will receive the KISS Humanitarian Award, 2012, on Saturday. Besides, he will be the chief guest at the 8th convocation of KIIT University on September 9. On the occasion, he will also be conferred an honorary doctorate degree by the university.

During his stay in Bhubaneswar, Thinley is also scheduled to meet Odisha Governor M.C. Bhandare and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
