Sambalpur: A warden of Balangir district jail has landed up in Sambalpur prison after police arrested him for refusing to marry the girl with whom he allegedly had a physical relationship.

The police arrested Sankirtan Sahu, 27, of Bikalpapur in Subhalaya police limits in Sonepur district on Thursday.

The police said Sahu had an affair with the 18-year-old daughter of a warden in Sambalpur jail. The warden adopted the girl as her daughter with the consent of her biological father.

Sahu allegedly had an affair with the girl. He had also developed a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. Later, when Sahu refused to marry her, the girl lodged an FIR on November 21, 2017. Sahu fled knowing that the police were searching for him. However, the police arrested him when he came to Hirakud for a cricket match.
