Bhadrak: Unearthing the death mystery of a five-year-old girl, Bhadrak Rural Police have arrested a 19-year-old woman, who happens to be the victim's maternal aunt, on the charge of murdering the minor.

The accused, China Dhal, has been booked for murder and suppression of evidence. She was sent to jail after her bail plea was rejected.

"She had killed the minor in a fit of anger and later dumped her body in a pond to suppress evidence and mislead the investigation," said inspector in charge of Bhadrak Rural police station Sudarshan Gangoi .

"We had a doubt on her since the day of incident as she was the first witness who found the body in the pond. We interrogated her repeatedly and she revealed the truth under intense questioning," he said.

The incident took place at Alauti village last Tuesday.

The younger daughter of Karunakar Nayak went missing when she was playing in front of her house in the evening hours. After frantic search for hours, her body was found near a small pond.

The body bore injury marks. Her family members had alleged that she was murdered.

Narayan Nayak , the elder brother of Karunakar, had lodged the police complaint.

According to the police, Dhal, the younger sister of the deceased's mother, was residing in that house for about last three years. On Tuesday evening, when the kid wanted to go to their poultry farm in the backyard of the house, Dhal did not allow her. At this, the kid threw a stone at her. Then, in a fit of anger, Dhal flung her into the air. The kid became motionless after falling on ground.

Although Dhal tried to bring the kid to sense by pouring water on her face, the kid did not respond. Assuming that she had died, Dhal dumped the girl's body into the nearby pond to make it look like a case of accident.
