Rahman was reportedly inspired by the sound of the hockey stick as it hits the ground and that gave Jai India the beat, and from there emerged the step.

The step sees Rahman and SRK hold a hockey stick and pump it into the ground and then pump their hearts in a gesture that says out loud - my heart beats for hockey.

The duo will choose two winners who will meet them on stage as Rahman performs “Jai India” on stage. The world cup song titled Jai India will showcase the new India and will have visual elements from the contemporary and urbane to the grassroots India even as it has as its core hockey and Team India. The song and video are slated to release on November 23 and 25 respectively.

People from various sectors are upbeat to take up the challenge. “I have seen people taking up so many unnecessary challenges and posting them on social networking sites. But, I feel this is for a cause and we should contribute to it,” said Debashree Dhal, a schoolteacher.

For many, it is an opportunity to meet Shah Rukh. “I am definitely going to give it a try. I might turn lucky,” said Monalisa Jena, a writer.

Heartbeats for Hockey is a movement launched by the state government that reaches out to sports lovers asking them to pledge a heartbeat for hockey in a bid to lend support to the sport. The collected heartbeats pledged will be presented to the hockey captains of the world as they come together on stage at the opening ceremony.
