Badminton player from state creates history by winning two gold medals and  a silver at national meet in Varanasi

Birakishore Behera won the State Open Rapid Chess Championship at Technical High School in Ganjam district with 6.5 points at the end of seven rounds. The tournament, organised by the Chess Association of Odisha, was inaugurated by Soroda MLA Purna Chandra Swain. Prakash Chandra Sahoo of Dandamukundapur and Dillip Kumar Das of Bhadrak finished second and third respectively with six and 5.5 points, respectively. Association secretary Sabita Tripathy and tournament director Debasis Panigrahi were present at the event.

Shuttler's laurel

International shuttler Pramod Bhagat created history by winning three medals, including two gold and a silver, at the three-day National Senior Para-Badminton Championships that concluded in Varanasi recently.

BSNL crown

BSNL retained the E-League Cricket Trophy with an innings and 57-run win over the Bhubaneswar Colts in the two-day final at IMMT Ground in Bhubaneswar.

Tennis final

Kabir Hans he became the first tennis player from the state to reach the final of the ITF Junior (under-18) tournament at the Uttarakhand Open.

Santosh Trophy

Odisha ended its run in the ongoing Santosh Trophy after suffering a 1-2 loss to Karnataka in Calcutta.

Bodybuilding medals

A seven-member squad of the Regional Sports Board of Bhubaneswar bagged five medals, including four gold and a bronze, at the four-day All-India Civil Service Bodybuilding, Weightlifting and Powerlifting Competition that concluded in New Delhi recently.

Bengal victorious

Taru Sai Joshi and Rahul Chatterjee, both from Bengal, won the girls' and boys' section respectively of the three-day Milky Moo U-14 Tennis Championship at Moo Courts in Barabati Stadium on Monday. The girls' doubles trophy was claimed by Bengal duo Taru Sai Joshi and Charlotte Liu, while the boys' doubles title was won by Andhra duo K. Satwik Murali and K. Suhrudh Amru. Around 70 to 80 young tennis players took part in the competition.
