Aizawl: Chief ministerial candidate of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) Lalduhoma on Saturday said a state-of-the-art youth centre would be established if the alliance came to power after the Mizoram Assembly elections due at the end of this year.
The ZPM is an electoral alliance formed in August last year by seven regional parties, comprising the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), Zoram Exodus Movement (ZEM), Zoram Decentralisation Front (ZDF), Zoram Reformation Front (ZRF), Mizoram People's Party (MPP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Addressing a party workers' meet at Ngopa village in Champhai district on Saturday, Lalduhoma, who was touring Lengteng Assembly constituency in the district, said the alliance would give priority to development of youths through its hand-holding policy.
"We will establish a well-equipped youth centre for the development of the youths through our hand-holding policy if we come to power after the Assembly elections," he said.
Emphasising the need for development, the ZPM leader said they would give priority to capacity building programmes, entrepreneurship and job counselling centres for the youths.
Lalduhoma said six basic needs of Mizoram advocated by former chief minister Thenphunga Sailo would be implemented.
Lalduhoma said if ZPM comes to power, it would try to make Mizoram a power-surplus state by clubbing hydroelectric power and solar power.
Besides, a new system would be introduced and a people's government would be established, he added.
He said priority would also be given to development of farmers.
He said, if voted to power, his government would purchase ginger and broomsticks, the two most important cash crops in the state, at Rs 50 and Rs 100 per kg respectively.
