A well-lit and hygienic bathroom can ward off negativity |
The bathroom, according to feng shui, is considered the most negative area of the house. This yin aspect is associated with bathroom because this is the area where a vast amount of water is used and drained.
Water is symbolic of wealth and it is often thought that the drainage of water tends to deplete one’s finances. Hence, it is important to locate the bathroom carefully keeping in mind the eight vital aspirations of life.
The best option would be to have the bathroom in the northwest of the house or a room. This area is ruled by strong movement, which helps to move out the negative elements caused by the bathroom. But in cases where one doesn’t have the option to relocate the bathroom then one should undertake corrective measures to cut down the negative energy.
For example, if your bathroom is in the northeast, which is associated with spiritual energy, mental peace and education the occupants may find themselves under lot of stress and unwanted mental pressure. The same goes for other directions. If the bathroom is in north then your career prospects could suffer, as the ruling water energy gets washed away.
The next powerful sector is the east from where the sun rises. This direction is connected with the health, well being and unity of the family.
The washroom in the southwest gives rise to marital problems and the couple will find it difficult to stabilise their relationship. A bathroom situated in the west is not desirable for couples planning to start a family since it is considered to be an area for children.
Similarly, the south will hamper ones success, as this area is associated with name, fame and recognition. Finally, the most talked about southeast, which the Chinese believe is the area that generates wealth, depletes ones finances when washroom is located here. If your bathroom isn’t in a good position then you can alleviate the problem by placing a large mirror outside its door to create an illusion that the bathroom does not exist in that particular area.
The thumb rule of feng shui states that what you cannot see cannot affect you. In an ideal position the bathroom should always be tucked away from view. If the washroom is too close to the main door then the positive chi entering the home gets drained away. To combat this, make sure to relocate the bathroom door or place a decorative screen in front.
No matter where the toilets are located, one should always ensure to keep the toilet seat down and the door closed. It is important to flush with the lid down because the suction of water sucks away energy with a strong force. Placing a bowl of salt on the window sill does wonders to alleviate the draining effect of the toilets.
The bathrooms are considered to yin in character because of the soft accessories used, like towels, bathrobes, bathmats and blinds in natural fabric.
One must contrast these with yang flooring, chrome, glass and ceramic tiles or basin. Small stainless steel trolley to hold a few candles, flowers or towels can also be kept next to the bath area to create a yang effect.
Keep the bathroom well ventilated, lit and clutter free. Dingy bathrooms further increase the yin effect and give a depressing feel. Tubelights are effective when placed above mirrors as they increase the light effect.
Mirrors should be carefully placed where they do not reflect the commode. One should always pay more emphasis on the placement of the doors. Under no circumstances should they open into the bedroom.
All the leakage should be immediately fixed as the Chinese believe that they gradually run down the finances.
Finally, consider the placement of the commode, basin and bathing area. Ideally the commode should be in the northwest corner facing south or in south facing north. Basin and the bathing area should be in the north, east or northeast.
Tip of the week
Try placing small pebbles on the plug holes to effectively hold on to the positive energy being drained away in the toilets.
