Indoor water fountains are great enhancers for a focussed mind

Q I have recently started an advertising agency. Please guide me in deciding the colour and design of my office, which will help me establish my business.

Arvind Tiwari

A: I wish you had sent me your date of birth, which would have helped me evaluate your favourable colours.

However, the shapes and materials used in any office should be appropriate to the function of the space.

Your advertising business suggests colours related to the water element because water suggests creativity, movement, media and communication.

You should have curvilinear designs in the office. Use transparent glass and reflective mirrors in plenty. These elements help represent clarity and free flowing of ideas.

The use of different shades of blue will not only enhance mental creativity of all those working in your office but also attract wealth and financial success in abundance.

An indoor water fountain or a painting of the ocean and crystal accessories are great enhancers for focused minds.

Q: I have recently qualified as an interior designer and chosen a small space for my new office. This is at the end of a long passage on one side. I am little sceptical about the entrance door, as it is not visible from the road. Could you please suggest a way to counter this negative approach to the office?

Aditya Phukan

A: You should view your office as a living organism where chi flow is similar to the involuntary function of your heart pumping blood through your body.

The front door, which is the one that is most frequently used to enter into the office, is the primary source of chi energy.

This vital chi is not readily allowed into the office when the door is not only far away from the road but also at the end of a long passage. The energy gets drained before it reaches the office.

If your front door is not visible, then how will your clients visit you or how will new opportunities flow into your life? However, you have the capacity to monitor and invite chi into the office to receive its maximum benefits.

Firstly, place the name of your company at a good height at the very start of the passage, so that it is clearly visible from the road. Illuminate it if possible.

Give appropriate signs showing the direction to your office. Put green plants in a zig-zag manner all through the passage till your office door.

This will not only slow down the fast running chi but also invite beneficial chi directly into your office.

Place an attractive board of your company with its logo on top near the entrance door at the eye level or higher, but never below the eyes.

If there is enough space, put a console with a beautiful painting on top.

Finally, hang a line of crystal pendants above the door to magnify the vital energy that flows in.
