Kokrajhar, Aug. 21: The 12th Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Gold Cup football tournament will kick off at the Udalguri sports ground tomorrow.

Altogether 18 teams, including defending champions Lajong Sports Club of Shillong, will lock horns in the tournament organised by the Udalguri Sports Association.

The other teams that have confirmed participation include the new ATPA Shield champions, Nagaland Police, Maharana Sports Club of Guwahati, Sports Authority of India, Guwahati, Mohammadan Sporting Club of Siliguri, Discovery Club of Kokrajhar and other leading clubs from the region, president of the association?s working committee H. Daimary said.

?To make the inaugural day colourful and popularise the tournament, a cultural programme has also been planned?, added Daimary. Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) executive member in charge of sports and youth welfare, Hitesh Basumatary, will grace the occasion.

The Bodofa U.N. Brahma Gold Cup is one of the five major football and volleyball tournaments recognised by the BTC, which earmarks Rs 5 lakh for each meet.
