In the last of a two-part series, Assam’s voice in Bollywood, Zubeen Garg, writes about some of his exciting assignments in 2007...

A very happy New Year to all my fans. It would have been simply impossible for me to be where I am today without your love, blessings and support. And I must say that my fans are part of every successful move I make. Thank you. By God’s grace, 2006 was a pretty good year for me. Ya Ali changed my life and I have managed to find a foothold in the very-competitive music scene in Mumbai. But I firmly believe that my best is yet to come.

I have several assignments on hand, which I am going to take up one by one this year.

The first on the to-do list is a Hindi film I have been considering for quite some time. But now I have a definite plan. I have even chosen the title for my movie — Chakra.

The plot will revolve around a mentally unsound man.

Since childhood, I have felt deeply moved by the state of the mentally ill and always wanted to find out the causes of abnormal human behaviour. I feel restless when someone laughs, ridicules or victimises a mentally ill person.

I have begun writing the script of the movie and am also discussing it with a few producers.

The world of cinema has always attracted me. I have already made an Assamese movie, in which I had also acted. I also played a role in a film called Dinabandhu, which won the National Award last year.

To tell you honestly, I have always had a dream to make a successful Hindi film. My challenge for 2007 would be to prove myself a good filmmaker.

Besides the film, several music albums are in the offing.

But one project that is really close to my heart is an album of S.D. Barman’s songs, which is being produced to mark his birth centenary.

Another exciting assignment this year is a remix album with music director Ismail Durbar. I will love to work with Darbarbhai as he is full of life and also a great human being.

These projects will take some time to take off but there is other work too.

In the first week of January, I will be busy recording and performing in different concerts in Mumbai and other parts of India. On January 13, I will leave for London for a performance.

Generally, I do not make any specific resolutions on New Year. I would rather take a pragmatic approach and plan out things. So I can only talk about my New Year plans rather than resolutions.

I also have plans to visit Pakistan to promote Ya Ali, as the song is a celebration of friendship and love.
