Imphal: The Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society and Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association on Wednesday urged the Manipur government to appoint thang-ta teachers in government schools as it has been included as one of the subjects from classes IX to XII since 2014.

The Society approached the state government to press for appointments of thang-tateachers after the N. Biren Singh government had announced appointments of 688 teachers in various subjects.

However, there was no clear mention of appointments of thang-ta teachers among the 688 posts which were advertised.

The Society feels that this is "gross injustice" meted out to the thang-tateachers.

Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association in Yumnam Huidrom, while showing solidarity with thang-ta teachers, said after introduction of the subject in schools, several teachers had been working for the last four/five years in 70 private schools affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education and the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur. Very few thang-ta teachers have been appointed in government schools.

H. Kiran Singh, a teacher, said thang-ta teachers for the last four/five years had been sharing expertise with meagre salaries in private schools.

"So it is high time, the state government must address the grievances at the earliest for absorption of thang-ta teachers in government schools."

The Society along with other thang-ta associations will hold a joint discussion regarding the matter at its Palace Compound office on Sunday to chalk out the next course of action if the state government does not consider their pleas.#
