
Bongaigaon, Feb. 10: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration today celebrated the council's 15th foundation day at its secretariat field at Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar district.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who was the chief guest, praised BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary for successfully ruling the council with continued development.
Sonowal said only unity among the communities can bring peace and prosperity.#
While addressing the huge gathering, Mohilary had expressed satisfaction on the latest budget of the state and he announced that almost 80 per cent of BTC agreements have been met in the past 14 years. But he did not lose the opportunity to criticise the All Bodo Student Union (Absu) in his speech and said the student group, who did not sign the BTC pact, writes graffiti and slogans on the newly constructed bridges and culverts in the council area.
On this occasion, the chief minister gave away Rs 2 lakh to Sahitya Akademi awardee Anjali Narzary and footballer Holicharan Narzary and Rs 10 lakh to super dancer Masum Narzary as financial aid granted by the BTC administration.
Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary had chaired the open session in which BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary gave the welcome address.
All the communities under the council took part in the celebrations and they showcased their cultural items separately to make the programme attractive and colourful.
Oranges were distributed to the people who came to the celebrations today.
In the beginning of the programme, Mohilary offered floral tribute to the statue of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma on the secretariat premises.
