East Zone team

Guwahati: Assam Ranji player and junior international Parvez Aziz will lead East Zone as captain in the Vijay Hazare Trophy inter-zonal (under-19) cricket tournament against Central Zone in Mumbai from December 28. Besides Aziz, three more Assam players — Abu Naschim Ahmed, Sujoy Tarafdar and Tazinder Singh — have also been named in the squad.

Gold Cup football

Dibrugarh: Hosts Oil India Limited (OIL) on Sunday humbled Tengakhat Sports Association 6-1 and entered the semi-final in the ongoing 2nd OIL Challenge Gold Cup football tournament at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan. Chirag United, Calcutta, will play SAI, Guwahati, on Monday.

Cooch Behar Trophy

Guwahati: Assam will meet Vidarbha in the four-day final of the Cooch Behar Trophy Plate Group tournament at Ahmedabad from Monday. Assam have qualified for the Elite Group by booking a final berth by virtue of first innings lead against Himachal Pradesh in the semi-finals.

Fund released

Guwahati: The state government on Sunday released Rs 50,000 to each of men’s and women’s hockey and gymnastics teams for the coaching camps being held at Nagaon for the 33rd National Games.
