Dibrugarh, Dec. 14: Sibsagar College, Mariani College and NLB City College, Dibrugarh posted victories in the three inaugural matches in the preliminary rounds of the Dibrugarh University Inter College Cricket Tournament that got under way today.

In a Group C match at Moran College playground, Sibsagar defeated SMD College, Charing by four wickets.

Put to bat, SMD were bowled out for 113 in 27.2 overs. Ujjwal Hazarika made 20, while Nekibur Rahman took three wickets for Sibsagar. In reply, Sibsagar reached home in 17.3 overs, losing sixwickets. Jitumoni Borgohain made 49 while Pradunya Gogoi of SMD took three wickets.

In a Group A match played at Dibrugarh University playground, NLB City College, Dibrugarh defeated Duliajan College by 31 runs. Put in to bat, NLB were bowled out for 123 in 23.1 overs. Kalyan Gogoi made 42, while Prasanta Sonowal made 16. Parag Bhatta picked up 3 wickets. In reply, Duliajan were bowled out for 92 in 21.1 overs. Tarun Mech made 30 while Parag Bhatta made 19. For NLB, Kiron Gharphalia claimed five wickets while Prasanta Sonowal scalped three.

In a Group D match at the Jorhat stadium, Mariani College defeated JHNS College, Jhanji by five wickets. Batting first, JHNS scored 154 losing six wickets in 30 overs. Pranjal Dutta made 50 while Nayan Jyoti Gogoi contributed 35. For Mariani, Rijoy Sarkar and Sunil Roy picked up two wickets each.

Mariani achieved the target in 24.2 overs with Samaresh Nandi scoring 51. Pankaj Agarwalla made 30 while Biswajeet Baruah bagged two wickets for Jhanji.

In a Group B match, Doomdooma College got a walkover as opponents Tinsukia College did not turn up. The Group E match between DR College, Golaghat and DKD College, Dergaon could not be held due to an under-prepared pitch.

The Group F match between Dhakuakhana College and Lakhimpur Commerce College, scheduled for today at the North Lakhimpur College playground, could not be held due to a bandh.
