Guwahati, July 18: The state-level children's science congress for this year will be held at Kokrajhar in lower Assam from October 25 to 28.

The National Children's Science Congress (NCSC) is an event where children in the age group of 10 to 17 years carry out mini-research projects on a given theme, which are presented for evaluation at the district level.

From the district-level children's science congress, projects are selected for final assessment at the state level and the best projects are sent to the national-level children's science congress.

An organiser of the event said the dates were fixed in a recent meeting of the reception committee of the local organisers, which was also attended by the state organising committee.

The focal theme for this year's event is "science technology and innovation for sustainable development with special emphasis on accessibility for persons with disability".

The NCSC is a programme of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, under the department of science and technology of the Centre.

The Assam Science Technology and Environment Council is the state organiser, and it is supported by the science and technology department of the state government.

"It is expected that about 1,000 children, their supervisors, district and state-level officials, members of jury and invited scientists would attend different programmes in the congress," an organiser said.

A reception committee, headed by Kampa Borgoyary, deputy chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, has been formed to hold the event.

Various other subcommittees have also been formed.
