SAI RC kick their way to top

Imphal, April 26: SAI Regional Centre clinched the overall champions title winning 78 points in the state-level Amateur Karate Do Championship at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium. Shitoriyu Nippon lifted the runners-up trophy with 75 points.

In the men’s kata final on Wednesday, T. Bikramjit, T. Dhamendra and M. Rabichandra bagged the gold for Shitoriyu Nippon while Wadokai’s Md. Alimuddin, N. Dhamendra and N. Sanju clinched the silver while the SAI-RC team of K. Kamson, K. Indrakumar and H. Royason claimed bronze.

In the above 21 kata competition, SAI’s Th. Naobi clinched the gold while S. Bipin of Wadokai got silver and Shitoriyu’s Arunkumar and Bijendra bagged the bronze.

Manikanta of Wadokai won gold in 10-11 kumite event, while Shorin Riyu’s Sana took the silver and the bronze medal was bagged by Robertson of Shoto Riyu and T. Rojit of Wadokai.

In the 16-17 age category, Wadokai’s Md. Alimuddin and Y. Britan bagged the gold and silver. While in the 18-20 age group SAI-RC Sushant won the gold and Kimson claimed the silver.

SAI RC’s Sushant struck gold again in the Open Junior Kumite event while Helin of Wadokai bagged silver and Shito Riyu Tarunjit and SAI RC’s Rabishankar claimed bronze.

In the 55 kg category of above 21 years, SAI RC’s Th. Naobi claimed the gold and Shito Riyu player Arunkumar took the silver.

In the senior open kumite individual section, SAI RC Naobi took the gold, Bidyashor of Wadokai fetched the silver while Tarun of Shito Riyu claimed the bronze.

In the team events, SAI RC bagged gold, Wadokai got silver and the bronze was clinched by Shito Riyu. In the women kata events, SAI RC continued to dominate the proceedings as Romabati Devi fetched the gold while Chandrima of Shito Riyu took the silver.

However, Shito Riyu struck back in the team events of the women section claiming the gold while Shotkan Karate claimed the silver.

In the 18-20 kumite open, SAI RC’s Sumila Devi clinched gold, Shotokan’s Nandini Devi the silver and Bindeshowri Devi of Shito Riyu took the bronze medal.

In the 18-20 60kg section, Shotokan’s Hema bagged the gold, Shito Riyu’s Chandrima Devi got the silver. The gold for the team events was claimed by Shotokan and Shito Riyu bagged the silver.

While in the above 21 open category, SAI RC’s Romabati Devi clinched gold and Chandrima Devi of Shito Riyu the silver.

Wangkhei legislator Y. Erabot Singh distributed the prizes to the winners and the runners-up at the closing ceremony.
