Nirjuli (Arunachal Pradesh): Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju on Monday said a permanent director of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (Nerist) would be appointed next month and other issues of the institute would be resolved soon.
Rijiju was responding to grievances put forth by Nerist students' union president Banta Natung, which included a need to appoint a full-time director, resolving the alleged financial irregularities, deployment of CISF personnel and the need to convert the institute into a full-fledged central university.
"The issues of Nerist will be taken care of and I take it as my responsibility. The institute, which is not only the pride for the state but also for the entire Northeast, cannot suffer," Rijiju said while inaugurating Sonabyss, 2017, the annual cultural festival of the deemed university.
Rijiju also inaugurated the newly-constructed central library of Nerist.
He called for a concerted effort of all stakeholders to resolve the alleged financial irregularities in the institute.
Rijiju also said he would discuss the matter of deploying CISF personnel at Nerist with Arunachal chief minister Pema Khandu.
