Aizawl, Jan. 14: The Kuki National Army (KNA) has issued ominous warnings to a couple of Kuki leaders in a press release dated January 11. The message to the two Kuki Inpi leaders reached this correspondent yesterday.
P. Gangte and Jangmang Haokip, two leaders in the Kuki Inpi (House of Kukis), have been accused of trying to erase memories of the ?genocide? allegedly carried out by the NSCN (I-M) during the nineties.
The communiqu? directed these two leaders to furnish explanations regarding their stand on the ?NSCN (I-M)?s recent aggression? by the month-end.
In the press release, the KNA said, ?There is no conflict between the Nagas and the Kukis?, adding that the only conflict was between the Kukis and the NSCN (I-M).
?During the period (1992 to 1997), over 900 people were killed, more than 350 villages uprooted and 50,000-plus people displaced,? alleged the press release, signed by self-styled Lt. J. Lhungdim, deputy director of the Kuki National Army.
The press release further demanded a response from the duo regarding the NSCN (I-M)?s alleged activities, such as ?illegal imposition of taxes on the Kuki people? and ?quit notices? served on villagers of the community.
The press release also accused Gangte and Haokip of having reduced the stature of the ?apex body of the Kuki people?, the Kuki Inpi, by registering it as a co-operative society.
