April 28: Two senior faculty members of Tezpur University, Parag Moni Sarma and Koilash Dutta, died on the spot in a road accident at Koliabor in Nagaon district today.

Koliabor police said the accident took place when Sarma and Dutta were returning to Tezpur from Guwahati and their car collided with a truck.

Koliabor civil subdivisional officer S.R. Bardhan said Sarma was driving the car and Dutta was sitting beside him.

“The bodies have been sent to Nagaon Bhugeswari Phukanani civil hospital,” Bardhan said.

Amarjyoti Choudhury, pro-vice-chancellor of Tezpur University told The Telegraph that Sarma was an associate professor and Dutta an assistant professor in the university’s department of cultural studies.

“The university is in a state of shock over the deaths of its two young and dynamic faculty members. They went to Guwahati to conduct certain examination-related works at Gauhati University. Sarma was involved in a lot of academic research. The university authority is constantly in touch with the family members of the deceased,” Choudhury said.
