Tezpur: Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha's house at Tezpur in central Assam remains neglected while the state government is making all efforts to preserve the house of Bhupen Hazarika in Calcutta and Laxminath Bezbaroa's residence in Odisha.
His family today urged Dispur to preserve his creations and belongings, which are decaying for want of proper preservation.
Rabha was known as for his literary and cultural contributions. He was a multi-faceted artiste and revolutionary singer of Assam.
He drew heavily from different genres of classical and folk cultural tradition. Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, during the British regime on January 31, 1909, he died on June 20, 1969 at Tezpur Kalibari.
He is also recognised as a film director, music composer and actor.
From an early stage, he played an active role in the Independence struggle. He came to be influenced by Left wing ideas and was close to the CPI.
In 1951, after the death of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, he became the president of the Assam branch of the Indian People's Theatre Association.
His son, Hem Raj Rabha, told The Telegraph at his residence, "We have urged the state government several times to preserve his creations, instruments and others. These are all decaying because of lack of preservation."
He added that the government and others remembered him on his death anniversary and then forget about him for a year.
In 2004, former chief minister Tarun Gogoi had met the Kalaguru's family members regarding the preservation of his house but nothing happened because the house was in the name of his elder brother, Golap Rabha.
The government had allotted 2 bighas in the heart of Tezpur for a museum. However, no action was taken thereafter.
