Bordoloi trophy
Guwahati, Oct. 2: Oil India FC, Duliajan, lifted the Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Tournament trophy, handing a 4-1 defeat to Assam Rifles, Tezpur in the final of the 61st edition at Nehru Stadium here this afternoon.
Oil India were 2-0 ahead in the first half with striker Manas Manjit Chetia striking for a brace in the 15th and 25th minutes. It was only in the 43rd minute that Assam Rifles’ seasoned striker Akum Ao took the first attempt at the net and his shot went wide away from the woodwork.
Into the second session, the Duliajan men started in the same note and pumped in another goal in the 49th minute even before the opponents could get a feel of the goalmouth at the other end.
Down 0-3, the paramilatary men staged a comeback attacking and counter-attacking the Oil India territory at quick intervals. However, their raids were mostly countered at the defence line. Despite the strong defence, Akum Ao put up a spectacular show of skill dodging past the Oil India defence with an angular shot from the right flank into the net in the 77th minute.
Oil India found the net for the fourth goal through Zaidin Hmar who made no mistake in converting a spot kick awarded for Assam Rifles defender Devender pulling down Mintu Boro in the 84th minute.
