Moin-ud-dowla meet

Guwahati, Sept. 6: Assam and hosts Hyderabad have agreed to play a limited-overs match tomorrow in place of the washed out three-dayer of the all-India invitational tournament for the Moin-ud-Dowla Trophy in Hyderabad.

With the third day’s play abandoned without a ball being bowled because of an overcast sky and the unplayable condition of the Gymkhana ground, the two sides were given the option of playing a limited-overs match or deciding the winner through toss.

Since the Assam team has travelled to the city for the tournament, Hyderabad Cricket Association secretary Shiv Lal Yadav gave them the option of playing a 50 overs- a-side match in place of the three-dayer.

Assam has agreed to the suggestion, Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah said, adding that it would give the senior team, which is on an exposure tour, the opportunity to play some cricket.

If the weather does not improve in Hyderabad tomorrow, the venue of the one-dayer match will be shifted to another ground, 40 km from the city.

Another match of the same tournament is under way on the ground.

The winners of the Assam-Hyderabad encounter will play the semi-final against the winners of the tie between Bengal and India Cements. The final will be played from September 12 to 15.

The Moin-ud-Dowla Trophy campaign is the last of the three-tournament summer exposure tour of the Assam senior team.
