Tezpur, April 18: The Nyishi Elite Society has invited Asam Sahitya Sabha and Bodo Sahitya Sabha for the 6th Nyishi Day celebrations to be held tomorrow.

The programme will be held at Yazali in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, 72km from Itanagar.

Bengia Tolum, the president of the society, said this is the first time that they have invited Asam Sahitya Sabha and Bodo Sahitya Sabha to join the programme.

“The society does not give any importance to party politics and has given priority to the role of women in the state as well as the development of youth,” Tolum said.

The silver jubilee celebration-cum-10th general conference of the society will also be held tomorrow.

April 19 is celebrated as Nyishi Day every year.

Six Nyishi-dominated districts of Arunachal Pradesh — West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey and Upper Subansiri have been using Nyishi textbooks and it is the third language after Hindi and English, Tolum said.

A cultural extravaganza, traditional sport, food festival of indigenous cuisine, exhibition of traditional ornaments, handloom and handicrafts and photo exhibitions will be the main attractions of the event.
