Guwahati, June 29: Indian Institute of Management, Shillong and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are planning to start the first two-year, full-time post-graduate programme in financial markets offered by an IIM.
Ravi Narain, managing director and CEO of NSE and Ashoke K. Dutta, director of IIM Shillong, signed an agreement today at the NSE office in Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, Narain said the post-graduate programme would help hone the trading and investment skills of students as well as working professionals and make them more eligible for the job market.
Dutta said their collaboration would go a long way towards capacity building and creating expertise in areas where demand exceeds supply.
In addition to the postgraduate programme, the NSE and IIM Shillong will also collaborate to offer a number of advanced level certifications and management development programmes in financial markets. The post graduate programme on financial markets will be a combination of general management subjects and highly specialised subjects on financial markets.
such as financial valuation and modelling, equity research, technical analysis, derivatives trading strategies and financial engineering.
The students will be able to get a global perspective, as the programme will include a visit to international markets. They will be able to simulate market conditions and develop trading, investment and portfolio management skills through simulated market software, specially designed by NSE.
Stand alone management development programmes and certification courses to be offered jointly by NSE and IIM Shillong in financial engineering, risk management, capital markets, and derivatives will help professionals to sharpen their skills.
Students from other streams who are interested in taking up certificate courses will also benefit from the certification courses.
