Guwahati, Dec. 12: Numaligarh Refinery Limited has started production of an industrial product, special boiling point spirit (SBPS), enhancing its product slate.

The first truck carrying 12,000 litres of SBPS was flagged off on Friday at Numaligarh Refinery marketing terminal by managing director P. Padmanabhan in the presence of NRL director (finance) S.K. Barua and other senior officials of the company.

In July, the refinery started marketing another special industrial product, mineral turpentine oil. At present, NRL is the only refinery in the Northeast producing these industrial products, which are used in the manufacture of paints.

The products find application as thinner for varnish, paint and printing inks formulation where quick drying is required, diluents for lacquer, enamels and high grade leather drops, solvent for processing polishes, cleaning and water proofing compounds and others. A company official said production of these special industrial products will help the paint industry in terms of ready availability and lower costs.
