Pollution board rap on ONGC

The Pollution Control Board of Assam (PCBA) has asked ONGC to set up continuous air quality monitoring stations at its installations. .L. Dutta, chairman of the PCBA, visited ONGC installations at Nazira, Geleky and Lakwa with seven colleagues recently. The board also suggested putting up fences to demarcate hazardous wastes lying at various places.

Four killed

Four persons, including a 55-year-old woman, were killed and several others wounded when the bus they were travelling in met with an accident at Saparmeina, in Manipur?s Senapati district, on Monday morning.

Rebel dead

One Ulfa activist was killed on Monday evening in an encounter with 16 Grenadier Regiment at Santipur in Assam?s Tinsukia district. A civilian and a soldier sustained injuries in the encounter.

Privatisation

The Mizoram government has decided to privatise state-owned highway restaurants and resorts in phases, state tourism minister Z.H. Rupia said on Sunday.

Boycott

All Manipur Students? Union, Democratic Students? Alliance of Manipur and Manipuri Students Federation have decided to boycott education minister Francis Ngajokpa and demanded he resign along with the director of education department.

Power station

Manipur chief minister O. Ibobi Singh inaugurated a 33-KV electricity substation in Senapati district on Sunday. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 3.67 crores.

Appeal to CM

The West Khasi Hills district unit of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People has urged Meghalaya the chief minister to consider pine trees as agricultural produce and not forest produce since almost 90 per cent of the trees are planted by land owners.

Pension adalat

A defence adalat will be held in Shillong on February 6 and 7 to redress grievances of pensioners in the region. These pensioners may contact their Sainik Boards to register for the adalat.
