Attack on police station

Suspected Ulfa militants lobbed a grenade at Borhola police station in Jorhat district on Tuesday. The grenade shattered window panes of the officer-in-charge?s quarters and caused some damage to the guard?s house. Sources said the grenade might have been lobbed from a tea garden located at the rear of the station. No casualties have been reported.

Remand

Morigaon civil court on Tuesday remanded 35-year-old Pranab Jyoti Das in two days? police custody on charges of raping a 30-year-old NGO worker at Sagarghat, under Dharamtul police station, on November 26

Naga holiday

Nagaland government has declared all Saturdays as a regular holiday, with effect from January 1, 2006, an official release said

MiG crash

A MiG-21 crashed at Pithakhowa on the outskirts of Tezpur, on Tuesday morning but the pilot, Squadron Leader Alok Bansal, escaped.

Welfare funds

The development department (monitoring cell), Manipur, has sanctioned Rs 9 crore for the MLAs? local area development, 2005-06.

Water scheme

The PHE department of Meghalaya is planning to harvest rainwater to mitigate water scarcity in Shillong.

Ignou lessons

Ignou has started broadcasting lessons in Khasi on All India Radio, Shillong, for certificates in primary education programme, every second, fourth and fifth Saturday, from 4 pm to 5 pm.

Interaction

The Pollution Control Board, Assam, held an interaction in Guwahati with PSUs on Monday. The session discussed reinforcing vital installations to counter the threat of earthquakes.

AASU rally

The AASU central committee, its Golaghat district unit and the Asom Unnati Sabha will jointly organise a mass rally on Wednesday seeking justice for the families of the victims of the Panka killing.
