Refinery project

Guwahati, Nov. 18: Numaligarh Refinery today commissioned its naphtha splitter unit set up to facilitate supply of petrochemical grade naphtha to the Assam gas cracker project at Lepetkata near Dibrugarh. Executed at Rs 87 crore, the naphtha splitter project will supply 160,000 metric tonnes of petrochemical grade naphtha annually.

Mishaps

Jorhat: Abdul Rashid, 70, was killed after he was hit by a motorbike at Babupatty in Sivasagar on Monday. Manas Gogoi, 23, died of his injures at the AMCH in Dibrugarh on Monday. He was hurt in a bike accident on Sunday night at Sivasagar bypass. Babul Hazarika, 26, died after his was run over by a truck on Sunday night when he was returning home on a bike after watching Raas Leela.

Workers hurt

Imphal: Eight labourers engaged by Border Road Task Force were injured when an IED exploded near a camp of the task force at Hartham village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Monday. The labourers were travelling in a truck when the bomb exploded. The injured were admitted to Ukhrul district hospital.

Jumbo killed

Tezpur: A wild elephant was electrocuted on Sunday night in a paddy field at Panpur village in Sonitpur district. The animal came in contact with an electric pole, which had fallen in the field.

Workshop

Guwahati: Save the Children, an NGO, and Childline, Guwahati, held a workshop on protection of children abuse at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Monday.

Protest

Dhubri: Mohila Samiti on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Dhubri deputy commissioner’s office against the irregular supply of LPG cylinders, power and price rise.

Eye camp

Jorhat: The Jorhat Lions Service Trust in association with Assam and Assam Arakan Basin, ONGC, conducted an eye camp at Hill Dubi LP School, Borholla in the district on Sunday.

Memorandum

Dhubri: Widows and older women of Hatidura development block of the district, in a memorandum submitted to Dhubri deputy commissioner Kumud Chandra Kalita on Monday demanded the release of widow and old-age pension that was stopped four years ago.

Re-count

Guwahati: The counting of votes of the re-poll of panchayat elections in Goalpara district will be held on December 2 instead of November 30.
