Imphal, Feb. 15: New Manipur University vice-chancellor N. Bijoy Singh today appealed to teachers of the university to withdraw their agitation in the interest of the students.
The V-C’s appeal came in the wake of a threat by the university students union to boycott university chancellor and Governor Ved Marwah, Bijoy Singh and teachers if the current crisis is not resolved by Tuesday. The students also threatened to close down the university.
In his appeal, Bijoy Singh said if normality was not restored, academic activities would suffer.
“I appeal to all the members of the Manipur University Teachers’ Association to resume academic activities, keeping in mind the general interest of the university and the interest of the student community in particular. I also appeal to all deans and heads of departments, who had tendered their resignations, to withdraw them,” the vice-chancellor said.
