Dimapur: The Nagaland cabinet will oppose any amendment to the Citizenship Act of 1955 that goes against the interests of the Nagas and take up any such issues with the Centre, an official release said on Wednesday evening.
The cabinet discussed the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, at a meeting in Kohima on Tuesday, pointing out that Nagaland is protected under Article 371(A) of the Constitution and the inner-line permit (ILP) regulations.
The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, is an ally of the BJP in the ruling People's Democratic Alliance government in the state.

The Nagaland Tribes Council and the Nagaland unit of the JDU have also voiced their opposition to the bill and extended support to the voices of the indigenous people of Assam and other northeastern states against it.
The cabinet discussed its April 16 decision on the constitution of the Nagaland Investment and Development Authority (NIDA) and approved the change in nomenclature to Investment and Development Authority Nagaland (IDAN) to avoid confusion with similar sounding acronym.
