Mysore tiger for Assam zoo

The Assam State Zoo is all set to get a Royal Bengal tiger from Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysore, popularly known as the Mysore Zoo, on March 12.

Guwahati: The Assam State Zoo is all set to get a Royal Bengal tiger from Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysore, popularly known as the Mysore Zoo, on March 12.

The tiger is being brought in a train.

"We are booking a complete parcel van and the tiger will be brought in it. The parcel van will be attached to the express train to Guwahati from Bangalore," divisional forest officer of Assam state zoo, Tejas Mariswamy, told The Telegraph.

The tiger will start its journey from Mysore on Friday.

The last tiger that had come to Guwahati was in 2005.

There are four female tigers in the zoo now and there is need for a male. The tiger from Mysore zoo is a four-year-old sub-adult male.

The last male tiger- Lachit - passed away in June last year.

Altogether five officials from Mysore zoo, including its divisional forest officer, a doctor and three animal keepers are coming with the tiger.

An official said the zoo will be giving away 4 white pelicans, 2 Brahminy shell ducks, four barking deer, 2 four horned antelopes, 2 brow antler deer and 2 leopard cats.

A team from Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysore, is already in the process of taking these animals from Assam state zoo. The animals are being taken in a train on Tuesday.

Apart from the Royal Bengal tiger, the Mysore zoo is giving away 2 blackbucks and 2 common peafowl.
