Monford, Happy Montessori win

Guwahati, May 17: Monford High School routed PS Dhanuka High School by 71 runs while Happy Montessori posted a 26-run win over Ascent High School in the 14th All Assam Golap Hazarika under-15 inter-school cricket tournament at Dispur parade ground today.

Monford opener Suman Chetri struck an unbeaten 74 (45 balls) to help his team put up a challenging 151 for four in 15 overs. Bingesh Goswami and Dhruba Medhi came up with 21 runs each. For PS Dhanuka, Pankaj Das took one wicket.

Dhanuka, however, were bowled out for 80 in 14 overs. Pankaj Das was the highest contributor, scoring 31 in 18 balls while Ashray Jain chipped in with 25. Monford pacer Bishal Chetri scalped four for just nine runs. Suman Chetri was named Man of the Match.

In the second match, Happy Montessori put up 114 for two in 12 overs. Opener Mohit Jaiswal struck 32 off 17 balls while Iswar Yadav struck 31 off 18 balls. For Ascent, Kaustav Bezbaruah scalped two, conceding just five runs.

In reply, Ascent could manage only 88 for four in 12 overs. Opener Moses Rahang topscored with 22. For Happy, left-arm spinner Mustaq Ahmed, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, took three for 15.

In the third match, Monford posted its second win of the day, defeating SBOA High School by 38 runs. Suman Chetri carried on his good form to be the highest contributor with 25 runs off 20 balls. SBOA bowlers Dhruba Pathak and Vishal Goswami took two wickets each.

In reply, SBOA were restricted to 46 for seven in 12 overs, thanks to pace bowler Mithu Ali’s devastating five for 12 runs in three overs. Vishal Goswami was the only batsman to score in double figures (10 in nine balls).

Mithu was named Man of the Match.
