Guwahati, July 18: Binu Kalita, 55, a mobile theatre actress in Assam, passed away at Jiakur village in Kamrup district last evening.

Binu, a spinster, is survived by her mother and younger brother.

She had been suffering from a disease for a long time. She was involved with mobile theatre from 1981 and worked with many groups like Mukunda, Kahinoor, Awahan, Bhagyadevi, Rajashri and Sankaradeva in her three-decade-long tryst with the state’s biggest entertainment industry.

Binu was associated with Hengul Theatre for the season 2011-12 but could not perform because of her illness.

“She was with us in the nineties for around three years. Her performance as a policewoman in the play, Mohila Police, written by Bhabendha Nath Saikia and a Karbi girl in Bonoria Sowali, written by Abatar Singh, is worth remembering,” said Krishna Roy, producer of Awahan Theatre.

Ratan Lahkar, producer of Kahinoor Theatre, said Binu was a serious artiste and was with them for two years.
