Imphal, May 4: Four under-19 cricketers from Manipur have been invited to attend a National Cricket Academy national camp at Agartala from May 8 to 28.

The players are Ngariyangbam Johnson Singh, Rajkumar Rex Singh, Sandeep Chakravorty and Alfred Hmar.

The Manipur Cricket Association said the four were selected by the all-India junior selection committee at a meeting of NCA in Bangalore on April 22 based on their performances in different tournaments.

This is the first time cricketers from Manipur have been selected for a national camp after its cricket body gained full membership in April after 19 years as an associate member.

MCA president Rk. Imo Singh had earlier said its top priority will be development of cricket at the grassroots level. He said "tapping talent from grassroots level is a must as we have to infuse the love of the game from the lowest level or else it would not help our players to shine in the future".

The NCA will also organise an under-16 camp at Dimapur in Nagaland from May 15 to June 4.

It has invited eight players each from Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar for the trials. The final trial will be held at Dimapur on May 12 and 13 where the junior national selectors will pick 25 players for the U-16 camp.
