Kokrajhar, June 22: Bodo lawyers in Kokrajhar have demanded a Bodo language paper in Grade-I (Paper IV) and Grade-III (Paper V) of the state judicial services exam.

The lawyers said examinees from Bodo medium had faced a lot of difficulties in 2011 and 2012 as both the papers tested the proficiency of candidates only in Assamese.

The lawyers expressed concern that the registrar (administration)-cum-in charge, recruitment cell of Gauhati High Court had published an advertisement on May 27 this year for appointment to 30 posts in Grade-I and Grade-III without including Bodo as a language paper.

The lawyers today sought the intervention of All Assam Lawyers’ Association.

Recently, the written exam for the post of lower division assistant in the chief judicial magistrate’s office being held here was cancelled after candidates belonging to Bodo and non-Assamese backgrounds objected to the question paper being set only in English and Assamese.

They said the question paper would deprive them a chance to get selected for the post since they were not proficient in Assamese. They demanded questions should be set in Bodo and other non-Assamese languages.
