Guwahati, Dec. 2: Accusing the Centre of being “insincere” in redressing the grievances of the Karbi people, the Autonomous State Demand Committee, along with four like-minded organisations, has threatened to resume the mass agitation to press for its demand for a separate state, comprising the two districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills in south Assam.

ASDC general secretary Chomang Kro today announced a 48-hour hills area bandh beginning 5 am on December 13 at a Press conference here. Essential services and examinations have been exempted from the purview of the bandh, he said.

The autonomous district council has not been able to fulfil the aspirations of the Karbi people as the concept was “institutionally defective”, Kro said. He said the ASDC should be involved in the ongoing peace process between the Centre and a faction of the United People’s Democratic Solidarity.
