Imphal: The Manipur government has decided to shift the helipad located inside the Kangla Fort to another location outside the fort.

Chairing a meeting of the Kangla Fort Board at Kangla on Thursday, chief minister N. Biren Singh discussed the shift.

Sources said the motors of the helicopter scared away birds and other animals.

The chief minister also directed that no new infrastructure should be allowed inside the fort. The members decided to plant as many fruit-bearing trees inside the fort. The movement of water tankers ferrying water for VIPs will be halted from the fort.

The helipad site was referred to as Manung Kangjeibung (inner polo ground) according to ancient scriptures. It is believed that King Kangba used to play polo here.

The outer polo ground is located at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Th. Satyabrata Singh, MLA, chief secretary J. Suresh Babu, DGP L.M. Khaute and arts and culture department officials attended the meeting.
