Guwahati, March 19: The Kamrup election district today launched a "My Vote Campaign" under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation programme of the Election Commission of India to create awareness among the people on voting.

The Kamrup election district comprises four Assembly constituencies - Chaygaon, Palasbari, Hajo and Boko.

The district administration has launched a plethora of awareness programmes as part of the campaign.

"There are several constituencies in the district where the voting percentage is very low. In a few polling stations, the polling percentage is as low as 23 per cent. Through our awareness programmes, we hope we can encourage the citizens to vote," said Kamrup deputy commissioner Vinod Seshan.

The district administration has launched trucks named Polling Stations on Wheels, road shows and street plays, bike and cycle rallies, hoardings and banners, workshops, singing sessions and public meetings to woo voters.

"We have also launched a website, myvotemyassam.com, for information related to the election. We have also launched a software - e-Suvidha and e-Samadhan - for the masses. Through e-Samadhan, we received 17 complaints and they have been addressed," Seshan said.

The Election Commission had, for the first time, assigned election awareness observers for the Assembly elections, which will be held in two phases on April 4 and 11.

Yogesh Baweja, the election observer for Goalpara, Rangiya and Kamrup, said, "Six of us have been assigned for the election. Each of us has been assigned 10 constituencies where we will see if the people are aware or not and take initiatives to raise awareness in places where the voter count is low."
