Kokrajhar, Jan. 25: Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is scheduled to visit this town and interact with students on February 3.

Kalam, who is considered a role model by students and teachers, will grace the 43rd annual convention of the All Bodo Students Union (Absu) to be held from February 1.

The four-day colourful programme will be held at Maidangshri Nwgwr, Banargaon, in the district.

Absu president Promode Boro told reporters at Bodofa House here, “It is an honour that A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will come to Kokrajhar and interact with students. He is a role model for students not only in India, but across the world. We are fortunate that a man of his stature will be here. Students and teachers will get the opportunity to hear him and interact with him. His presence will have a huge impact on youths and will inspire and motivate thousands of students and teachers.”

Expressing concern over the decline in quality of education in Bodo-medium students, Boro said it was necessary to build a knowledge and information-based society and eradicate illiteracy and ignorance.

“The Absu has been on Mission Quality Education since 2006 and we are fortunate to have Kalam as the chief guest to speak on Mission Quality Education,” he added.

Boro said the students’ union would discuss the socio-economic and political problems of the Bodos and other indigenous communities as well “Bodoland” state at the convention.
