Julia wins gold in shooting

Wahengbam Julia Devi bettered her own record to claim the gold medal in the smallbore sports rifle prone at the 28th All Manipur Shooting Competition 2018 at the Khuman Lampak shooting range.

Imphal: Wahengbam Julia Devi bettered her own record to claim the gold medal in the smallbore sports rifle prone at the 28th All Manipur Shooting Competition 2018 at the Khuman Lampak shooting range.

Competing against two other shooters in the 50m junior women's individual smallbore sports rifle prone, she bettered her record with 567 points. She had got 564 points in 2015. Rk. Mamta (536 points) and Francy Kshetrimayum (529 points) fetched the silver and bronze medals.

Kunyson Tonambam of Imphal West created a state record in the 25m sports pistol championship, junior men's individual, with 281 points, eclipsing previous year's record of 277 points set by Ajay Singh Huidrom. Huidrom settled for silver with 272 points. Jupiter Asem fetched the bronze medal with 242 points.

However, Huidrom got the gold medal in the standard pistol championship 25m men's individual event, equalling his own record of 267 points. He created the record in the last edition of the meet. Tonambam with 260 points and Asem with 216 points got silver and bronze medals.

The other gold medallists of the day were L. Dhanchandra Singh with 47 points in the .22 standard pistol/revolver 25m men's individual (personal gun licence) and S. Kiranjit Singh with 215 points in the .22 rifle open sight standard prone championship 50m junior men's individual.

Pact inked: The Manipur Cricket Association (MCA) has signed an MoU with Megacon Communication Private Ltd, New Delhi, a sports management group, to sponsor its first mega project, Manipur Premier League, which is likely to start from November.

Megacon Communication was represented by its executive director Rajeev Kumar and the MCA by its president Rk. Imo Singh. The MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation in execution, logistics and operation for successful organisation of tournaments. The league will be as per the cricket standard of BCCI.
