Insurance for Manipur players

Imphal, Feb. 5: The Manipur Olympic Association has decided to provide accident insurance to all state players participating in the 33rd National Games, scheduled to begin in Guwahati on Friday.

This is the first time that state players are being given insurance cover.

Representatives of various disciplines and the association met to give the final nod to the scheme on Saturday, in view of security concerns and also in case the touring players suffer grievous injuries in any accident.

The scheme will be under the United India Insurance Company for a year and the amount will be Rs 1 lakh, with a minimum contribution of Rs 60. The Manipur contingent’s strength for the event is around 481, including officials of the association.

The Wrestling Federation of India has appointed N. Phuni Singh as competition director of wrestling during the Games. Phuni will oversee the event at the Tarun Ram Indoor Stadium.
