Hailakandi, June 7: India Club maintained their winning streak, clinching the Paresh Chandra Dasgupta Trophy, the Silchar first division football league title. The tourney ended at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar yesterday.
India Club remained unbeaten since the beginning of the season. They were declared champions of the tournament that concluded with a 1-1 draw between Silchar Sporting Club and Public Health Engineering Department Recreation Centre (PHE RC) in the last league match yesterday.
Dinesh Singh of PHE RC drew first blood in the 19th minute of the match. The equaliser was scored by Amar Rongmei for Silchar Sporting in the 35th minute. The PHE outfit finished runners-up for the Suresh Chandra Paul Trophy.
Veteran footballer Rashbehari Goala and officials of the District Sports Association of Silchar gave away the prizes.
Tarapur Athletic Club finished third in the league and Silchar Sporting fourth. Defending champions Town Club, which finished a poor fifth, were adjudged the most disciplined team of the tournament. Ringson Hmar and Rajen Tanti of India Club were adjudged the top scorer and best linkman of the meet respectively.
Their teammate, Achung Chiru, was adjudged best forward. Sanatan Chasha of Arunachal Seva Sangha was named the best goalkeeper and Bijan Das of Silchar Sporting the best defender.
