Imphal, Dec. 1: Imphal East emerged champions of the State-Level Swami Vivekananda PYKKA Rural Sports Competition 2013 at Khuman Lampak sports complex today.
Imphal East won the athletics and archery titles of both boys and girls’ events and the volleyball event for boys.
In handball and table tennis, they got the second position to finish with 47 points for the overall champion’s title.
The Thoubal district team settled for the runners-up title with 43 points, claiming the handball and table tennis titles for girls and the women’s kho-kho title.Churachandpur got the third position with 29 points, Imphal West team got 28 points, Bishnupur got 26 points, Tamenglong got 10 points, Senapati got nine points and Chandel got six points in the meet.
Youth affairs and sports director N. Ashokumar, along with deputy director K. Shyamsunder, distributed prizes to the teams.
Tennis: N. Kangjamba Singh of Revenue Department claimed the men’s open singles title of the 23rd Manipur Civil Services Tennis Championship 2013 at Officers Club, Lamphelpat today.
In the final, N. Kangjamba had no difficulty facing T. Pamei of Registrar Co-operative for the title. In the men’s doubles, H. Ibotombi and N. Dilip of PHED got the better of Pritam and Umesh of Medical to work their way up for the victory today. In the team event final match, PHED beat Medical by 2-1 sets to claim the champion’s title. Manipur chief secretary P.C. Lawmkunga, and MCSTA president H. Deleep Singh, handed over the trophy to the winners.
Soccer: SAI RC will take on IYA Kakching in the first qualifying round match of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh, KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament to be played at Mapal Kangjeibung at 1.30pm tomorrow.
