Imphal, April 5: Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh today opened a multi-purpose indoor hall at the Khuman Lampak sports complex in Imphal.

The indoor hall was constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore, provided by the North Eastern Council and the 13th Finance Commission.

The inauguration of the hall came ahead of the 27th North East Games to be hosted by Manipur at Khuman Lampak sports complex from Monday.

Nearly 2,000 athletes and officials from the seven northeastern states and Sikkim will participate in the meet and the newly-opened hall will be the main venue for contact sports.

Inaugurating the hall, Ibobi Singh urged players and coaches to work hard to annex the champion’s title in the upcoming North East Games.

Listing programmes taken up by his government, the chief minister said the existing Khuman Lampak sports complex would be developed further with a sum of Rs 100 crore, also provided by the 13th Finance Commission, to produce more international medal-winning sportspersons from the state.

He said the hostels, one each for boys and girls at the Khuman Lampak sports complex, will be completed soon.

Selected players, 150 each of boys and girls, will be kept at the hostels for intensive training courses.

Later, the chief minister inspected the sports complex and ongoing development activities.
