Guwahati, Jan. 3: When former junior international Palash Jyoti Das was not hitting fours, he was blasting sixes. Das went on the rampage with the willow at Latasil Ground today, scoring 92 off 71 balls against Vintage XI to take Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre into the semifinals of the 14th Guwahati Challenge Trophy cricket tourney.
Vintage XI lost by 46 runs.
Choosing to bat first, Guwahati Cricket piled up 200 for eight in the stipulated 30 overs. In reply, Vintage XI went back to the dressing room with only 154 runs on the scoreboard.
Das blasted the Vintage XI bowlers across the greens with ease, hammering 12 hits to the ropes and two over-boundaries.
Out-of-favour Ranji player Zakaria Zuffri chipped in with a steady 41 (4x4), while Vishal Jain remained unbeaten on 17 (1x4, 1x6). R.K. Mritunjoy Gohain (15) was the other notable scorer for the side.
For Vintage XI, Sunil Baid and Sumit Jain shared two wickets each, conceding 28 and 35 runs off their respective quota of five overs each.
Das struck with the ball too, notching three wickets for 14 off only two overs. Bitop Mahanta, Ram Kripal Gupta and Bhaskar Jyoti Barman shared two wickets each for 20, 28 and 34 runs respectively, bowling six overs each.
Deepjyoti Chakraborty topscored for Vintage XI with 42 (5x4), while 22 runs (1x4, 2x6) came off the blade of Sudhir Sarawgi. Ashwin Tiwari contributed 14 runs.
Embrace Club will face Santipur Athletics Club in the second quarterfinal tomorrow.
